DuPont Teijin Films, the worlds leading manufacturer of PET films, offers a wide range of products tailored to the photovoltaic market.

PV, Photovoltaics, Solar

Today these products are being used across all module technologies and in many different applications across the world. Our films can provide cost effective solutions offering, among others, the following attributes.

Module Safety

  • Excellent electrical insulation properties
  • Robust “cut-through” and tear resistance

Module Life

  • Enhanced weatherability
  • Strong adhesion properties in multi-layer laminates
  • Dimensional stability and continuous service temperature capability

Module output

  • Clear films with high levels of Total Light Transmission, or white and black films for reflectance, opacity and asthetics

In existing technologies the most popular backsheet construction is a “sandwich” of Mylar® PET polyester film between two layers of DuPontTM Tedlar®. This trilaminate is commonly referred to as T/P/T. The following properties make Mylar® polyester film the ideal candidate for the TPT laminate:

  • Excellent electrical properties
  • Meets water vapour barrier requirements
  • Has tailored dimensional stability
  • Is easy to handle
  • Robust “cut-through” and tear resistance

Mylar® PET polyester films for this application area are available in a range of thicknesses from 50 microns (2 mil) up to 250 microns (10 mil), with other thicknesses possible by discussion.

Photovoltaics and outdoor signage are placing increasing demands on the outdoor durability of polyester films. Our new range of ultraviolet light stabilized films greatly improves mechanical and optical property retention after UV exposure.
