Sealant Films

Today there is a noticeable diversification of the packaging solutions used in the area of pre-prepared meals. Diversification in this area is influenced by changing consumer trends, both in terms of the traditional 'cash rich time poor' scenario, but also, as the range of meal options increases, a single consumer can make different meal choices each day depending on their needs.

The traditionally named 'ready meal' in some cases still needs to be just that - ready to go, either into the microwave or conventional oven. In other cases the consumer needs to feel a greater involvement in the preparation of the meal. This particular need has given rise to more 'raw' part-prepared and 'dressed' food, such as those with cook-in sauces contained within the meal tray being available. Compartmentalised meals that offer the consumer a greater sense of involvement in the preparation of the meal are also growing in importance.

The range of options presented on the supermarket shelves gives the consumer a choice - allowing them to choose at point of purchase how engaged they want to be in the preparation of any given meal.

Working Together

The diversification of meal options, and so packaging requirements, has meant that there is an even greater need for close working relationships between machinery manufacturers, gas suppliers, tray producers, films manufacturers and converters, food producers, packers and retailers.

Only by strengthening these relationships can those involved deliver finished packages that do their job - which is to ensure that the freshness of food is not compromised, the convenience and delivery of prepared meals is enhanced and the overall look of the items remains engaging, whichever meal delivery system has been selected.
